Hong Kong’s Strong Equestrian Tradition

The international Olympic committee is in town for one of their periodic inspections. Last time around, IOC President Jacques Rogge said that if pollution was bad enough they might have to move some events, which would be a pretty big loss of face. Anyway, this is familiar territory which I won’t g over again. I did notice in the story about his visit that the IOC rep, Hein Verbruggen, praised the facilities for show jumping etc in Hong Kong, citing it’s “strong equestrian tradition.” This is like saying that Las Vegas has a longstanding “mathematics tradition.” Of course, I may be wrong. Perhaps it’s unusual that all the conversations I had about horses when I lived in Hong Kong were about odds and trifectas not dressage and show jumping. As ever, I am happy to be corrected….
