Serbia holds presidential, parliamentary and local elections this month. Recent polls put the incumbent, President Boris Tadic of the Democratic Party, slightly ahead of Tomislav Nikolic, head of the conservative opposition Serb Progress Party (SNS), meaning the pair will almost certainly square off in the presidential ballot. The parliamentary contest contest sees 17 parties competing and will likely result in another coalition government. Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether Belgrade will offer Serbs in Kosovo a vote in the presidential poll. Kosovo declared independence from the country in 2008, which was recognized by the U.S. and many individual states, but not by the E.U— or by Serbia.
