Even when you don't mean to, there is prejudice afoot. Why are there no Western Muslims in these pictures? Could it be an unwritten assumption that there are no Muslims worth mentioning in America or Europe? We are here and fasting and enjoying the bounties of Allah and we are here in the US living the Sunnah of His messenger. We are just as Muslim, despite this slighting by photographers at TIME....

Not drinking during the hottest time of the year dos not sound like a grand idea. Apparently, self-inflicted suffering is a way of coming closer to "god".
it is not everytime that ramadan is during the hottest time of the year. Every year, month of ramadan gets back like 10 days, this means we made ramadan 30 days later than we make it today, 3 years ago. In addition it's not self-inflicted, it is just a must for every muslim to show his-her fidelity for god.
There are many people in the world who don't have food to eat or water to drink. By fasting you can at lest experience a bit of it and you will strive more to help such people. God doesn't want us to suffer, all our suffering is self inflicted. Only if we follow the teachings of our Creator there will be no suffering. Fasting makes us realize the bounties God has provided to us in the form of food and drink. And its not just food and drink one has to refrain from but from lying, cheating, backbiting and all such immoral acts. One has to be far from these vices all the time its just a rigorous training period for the rest of the year.

Not just the stereotypical Arabia, Pakistan, Palestine, etc. Ramadan is a beautiful time of year where muslim from all over the globe strive through many diferent ways of worship to become closer to their creator. Really beautiful pictures. But disappointed that alot of the "Muslim World" was left out. BTW there are muslims in every part of the world. Not just Pakistan, India, Arabia, Middle East. This is a stereotype that many muslims strive to overcome.
