Of course the US has a pure heart and gets involved in China's territorial disputes only out of treaty obligations. After all, Vietnam has been such a loyal friend for so long...

 Pure heart,don't make me laugh.Please look at the treaty US sign with the Japanese after the WWII !!  Who's land they used for bargaining in the treaty.

I'm sure they believe that and I'm sure they're right. The US government would be remiss if it weren't trying to manipulate the growth of other world powers to its benefit. Its a rather common practice, however unpopular it is in theory.

See Apple vs (insert technology company). Two parties, stepping on eachother's toes as a necessity, and throwing elbows to try to stay on top.
