With the Spanish economy teetering on a precipice, the ruling government of conservative Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced new austerity measures—a move that triggered mass protests in the country’s capital. Led by the organizers of the longstanding indignado movement—which, in many respects, inspired Occupy Wall Street in the U.S.—protesters marched on the Spanish parliament, but were confronted with violence from riot police. Over 60 were injured, while dozens were arrested.

The European Development Fund as a whole amounts to several hundreds of million euros running over a five-six year period of development financing activities in the 77 beneficiary African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. The EDF resources for development are implemented in each beneficiary country by the national authorities and the local European Commission Delegation.
auterity in a recession never really works. but spain is a special case because of its integration into the euro. if it had its own currency. this would not have happened. Why Austerity does not Work? http://wp.me/p2JYCO-1g
I'd like to stress that Spanish people aren't against austerity measures.
We are against cutting on public Health and Education, instead of cutting on Military spending, oversized State structures, corruption, etc.
We aren't lazy people. We just failed to create a real democratic environment back after Franco's death. The politicians managed to create a system to make themselves richer and untouchable.
This country needs a new Constitution. And the moment is now.
@Miguel A Herrero Military spending? a Western European country? you must be joking right you spend 1% of your GDP on Defense, do you think peace and security are free, or would you just rather the US continues to pay nearly all of the costs of maintaining the global system from which western Europe benefits immensely?

Well said, Maxim Shaw -- I feel that the truth you express is deliberately "glossed over" by the Anglo media.
Western governments don't want their people to know about what is happening in Spain.
By subscribing Maxim Shaw, just to a append that this movement does not protest against austerity but states a new paradigm of social model, based in the confidence among the people derived from a cooperativist coexistence. This new paradigm is frontally opposed to the establishment, the status quo social model, highly individualist, where the other is a rival for the individual. From this new way of understanding society, called the "quince eme" (15M) paradigm, the other people becomes a partner to the individual. This happens since all the people here stand for a common aim in general and common cooperation in particular.
What would the English people as their leaders will benefit from public money for personal gain. As reactionary English people to the austerity policies published only for the people and not the rulers. As an English family live on a minimum wage of 600 euros.
Regarding Spain's anti-austerity movement, please note that we are not protesting against austerity, we are protesting against where the spending cuts are applied, against the widespread corrpuption which has made so much public money disappear, against banks being rescued with public money while health clinics are being closed, against inneffective and corrupt politicians. We are all willing to accept austerity provided it is spread fairly across all spending.
the spanish police must be held responsible for their savagery and barbarism ! one day they will have to answer to the people.
