In India, a Rape Sparks Violent Protests and Demands for Justice

i did not know india is such a barbaric primkitive and cruel society that discriminates against their women by raping them as part of tradition.

you rape and hide the name of the victim so that the world does not know who was raped.

shame on you! shame on you indian men!

"alleged gang rape" - I understand common sense but this is irrational. One of the accused  has pleaded guilty to the crime. There is no evidence to indicate the victim was not raped.

Moreover, the policeman did not die of injuries resultant of the protest, or at least it has not been proved so. This should have been mentioned in the package. His autopsy reports do not indicate grievous injuries as reported by the Indian media. The Delhi High Court has put the State Government and the Police on notice after two of the accused protesters managed alibis for the time of the "ALLEGED" attack.

Please be conscientious when reporting such global events, especially as the world  (for TIME's sake) is reading.

I was contemplating a trip to India.  Now, I will not go.  I'll spend my money elsewhere.  I suggest that anyone who had ever thought of going to India for tourism, go somewhere else.  I also suggest that all international tour operators refrain from conducting tours to India until this barbaric behavior is nonexistent.  I also suggest that all international companies who outsource to India, pull their companies out of India. When these things happen, the government will finally take these horrible crimes seriously.

No attack on women should be condoned in whatever part of the world....these criminals should be made an example of the sort of punishment that is meted out to crimes of this nature.

One point I should make is this....The Film Industry in India has a lot to do with the attitudes of people....these sorts of actions are seen often in Indian films and much worst social contents.....India has lost its way from the High moral ground due to the laxity shown by Sensors and the Government.....change now...or join the queue...the Wester Filth that pervades our society......Taij Seetaram, USA

The offense and disrespect the Indian woman can not be ignored by the authorities and by the United Units. Offenders should be punished exemplamente. Such conduct does not represent the will of the majority.

my condolence to the victim's family...the rapists should be suffered to the highest level of trauma (physically, mentally and emotionally) and then be killed...they deserved to dead. Before they die they should feel the pain and realize what heinous thing they did to that poor girl. Indian government should set their deaths as an example for the rests, so that a  man should think twice about it before even having such thoughts of doing  heinous things to any girl!!.

I cannot describe how shocked and how moved I am by this! The culprits need to experience the same injuries as the ones they inflicted on the victim.  I am joining this protest with my heart and soul. May justice be delivered. 

I am an Indian and while my heart is wrenching at the heinous crime, I am also encouraged to see how young people are able to relate to the plight of the victim and to see the democracy at its best - when people are united for a cause and are able to express their frustration at the government. I don't think this would have been possible in autocratic regimes like China.

The tides are turning and it's time for justice to prevail in India. The oppression and tyranny under the current patriarchal society needs to end!

ABSOLUTELY....THEY SHOULD BE CASTRATED!   The whole world is watching India right now...just like the Middle East and their horrific crimes against innocent women and children at a bakery.  These people mean absolutely no good to their country, their God, or their government.  They are acting like common ferol animals and should be dealt with accordingly. Crimes like rape are considered severe and ferocious ones, which need to be handled seriously for justified judiciary action against the culprits involved in such heinous deeds without any delay.

This is actually a very serious issue . A 23 year old girl was reaped inside a bus in New Delhi which is the capital of India . It's a shame to call New Delhi as the capital of India . Seriously I have no idea what the government is planning to do with all the men who raped the girl . For God's sake the government should al least once this time think from the public's point of view . With would they have if this had happened to their own children or sisters . Bloody hell the politicians would have killed those guys . Those guys don't deserve to live at all . Why is that for anything India doesn't act fast . They sat with a terrorist for years spending millions on him , and I guess that is what they are gonna do with these guys too . Wow amazing India . Great Government . 

TIME has got the headline wrong. I don't see any violent protests in the pictures. The only violence is that of a policeman beating up helpless women. I only wish the protests were violent so that they shook up the opium eating leaders.

They said alleged rape, not person X is the alleged rapist.  Their wording is maybe it was a rape, maybe not, depends on if the woman is lying.

"Alleged gang rape"?  What is wrong with you Time.  The best that can be said about you is that you are clueless about the meaning of alleged.  The worse that can be said about you is unprintable.

"Alleged rape" just adds to the problem, I think.
