West Bank Turmoil: An Unexpected Death Raises the Tension

Street protests broke out in West Bank last week in support of Palestinians held in Israeli jails. They focused on the plight of four inmates who had been on lengthy hunger strikes in the Ofer prison, near Ramallah. Then, over the weekend, Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat, who was not on a hunger strike died under disputed circumstances, prompting more demonstrations. Jaradat’s funeral was held in Sa’ir, near Hebron, West Bank on Feb, 25, 2013. The day saw clashes both in Hebron and near the Ofer south of Ramallah. There has been speculation in the media, both in Israel and internationally, that the new turmoil could the be the beginnings of a third Intifadeh, or uprising. (The first Intifadeh lasted from 1987 to 1993; the second from 2000 to 2005.)  The tension was ratcheted up after Gaza militants fired a rocket into Israel, on Tuesday, Feb. 26. It was the first such projectile from the Palestinian territory to hit Israel since Israel-Gaza hostilities last November.

First of all, those who were on a huger strike, obviously did not consult the calender, Yom Kipper is still months away. Secondly, Israel traded one person for a thousand prisoners, to be exact, terrorists.

Quite frankly, I do not see any problem here, everyone makes choices.

They need to kill a LOT more of those evil thugs. The American press needs to stop propagandizing for the "palestinians," too. They show photos like the one above and intentionally avoid showing the photos of the "palestinians" armed with RPGs, AKs and suicide vests. This gives the American people the erroneous impression that Israel is the aggressor here. In reality, the Arab countries want nothing less than the complete eradication of Israel and are using the "palestinians" as pawns to that end.

Israel is destroying Palestinian houses and building new illegal settlements on a daily basis while the "West" does it's slapstick "Israel Wants Peace" and "Israel is Just Defending Itself" slapstick routines. Of course it was going to blow up, as much as the "West" liked to pretent that a status quo of Apartheid could be kept up while new illegal settlements are coming up and the bantustans are getting smaller.

Israel is pure evil, an Apartheid regime created and kept up through ethnic cleansing and massive human rights abuses. Everyone who claims otherwise is either immensely ignorant, insane, fascist, a crazy religius maniac or a combination of those.

@RaimoKangasniemi Israel is 20% Arab. How come it is so hard for you to see that the apartheid forces are in the Palestinian Authority who actually will KILL any Arab who sells his or her land to a Jew. Israel is largely a Jewish population....many ethnically cleansed from Arab lands [as you so conveniently omit from your analysis]. This obviously bothers you. This majority Jewish country must be "pure evil" because you are a typical racist. Of course, you are so arrogant that you claim anyone who doesn't agree you is immensely ignorant, insane, fascist, etc....  Yet, it is obvious who the fascist really is. If you want to find out, go to Gaza and start a protest in favor of peace with Israel. After you get out of jail, go join one of the many Israeli demonstrations promoting a 2 state solution.
