On the tenth anniversary of the fall of Saddam Hussein’s statue in Paradise Square, TIME International Editor Bobby Ghosh recalls a harrowing experience in the occupied palace, which would become a harbinger of troubles to come. Ghosh was TIME’s Baghdad bureau chief from 2006-2011.

"It was a mistake - a well-intentioned mistake."

I wish this incident could have been symbolic of the entire Iraq fiasco.  But the invasion of Iraq wasn't well-intentioned.  It was all about monumental hubris, misguided vengeance, naked greed and well orchestrated deception.
