A powerful gas explosion ripped apart an office block in the Czech capital, Prague, on April 29, leaving more than 40 people injured. The explosion, which centered on lower levels of historic Divadelni Street, was reportedly heard over a mile away and sent shockwaves throughout the Old Town. “There was glass everywhere and people shouting and crying,” Vaclav Rokyta, a local student, told the Associated Press at the scene. Six foreigners were among those hurt, and authorities evacuated hundreds of people from the area. Several nearby buildings, including the National Theater, had windows shattered by the blast’s impact. Miraculously, no fatalities were reported despite the high concentration of people working in the area.
