It is a typical represent of US authority. The coutryies which are marginalized by US,China must cooperate with them.
Don't it make you feel good knowing that China got rich over selling us all the "stuff" we buy from them, so they can now afford to invest in those projects which will help them out, and we're trying to keep up in Africa by helping with foreign aid packages in order to maintain some influence there?
Does the author know what "imperialism" is? Using money instead of military to force trade that is part of imperialism. What China doing is mercantilism not imperialism. And this kind of misinformation is on TIME?
When US talk about foreign aid, most of them is in term of outdated weapon dollars.Actual assistance to the third world is thru private organization
Oh, geopolitics and this kind of balance-of-power are explicitly sublimated through the so called aid. If I may borrow a term which used within the comment below, we can say this as China's (or countries') deception. Aid = debt = exploitation.
These so called "aid" and "development" projects are actually mega projects which employ Chinese laborers who are exported to those countries and work under Chinese bosses. It is a total deception which aids China most of all.
Globalization means world competition from those who have money to invest. The Chinese are not interested in human rights issues...just in returns on investment.
This is from the USA -- the country that goes around the world killing people on suspicion of terrorism, which erects tariff barriers to African farmers, which maintains a global empire of military bases on a vast, global scale. Which tries to strangle countries like Cuba and Iran that defy it.
The new Panama Canal will be a relief -- the US has interfered in that country for decades and kidnapped one of its presidents for offending George H W Bush -- an act of international piracy. Of course, no one will need to submit cargoes to US "security" checks.
@prastagus They're doing the imperialism bit too.
@justianedwin I remember a movie which named like " one man's war of .....", in the movie, the leading role said one famous saying, " America will spend billions to help Afghanistan to fight the soviet union, but will not spend even one million to help them build schools after the war" Because America is a shrewd country which exactly act upon its own best benefit. And I am also wonder, why the president Franklin Roosevelt helped China at the time of the Second World War, it is partially based on the interest of the America, partially, because he understand, the people will be more happier living in a world with several powers than dominated by one power. It is called separation of powers which is used well in the domestic political system of America, but it is also true, when it is applied to the world. People are not god, politician are especially not god, so why dictate other countries to behalf according to your ideas. The African will be happier if the world has China, Chinese will be happier, if the world has other powers, and so the American and Russian.
@arvay Lots of rich business man all over the world find ways to force poor countries to get themselves more money at others expense. Look at what the British diamond company Diee beers? has done to west Africa. And England didn't care until it became world news. Even US has a large poverty problem because are rich people are so powerful by controlling the Republican party on all financial issues at the poor peoples expense. Including rigging elections.
