Assad Taunts U.S. Over Iraq, Vietnam

Assad said intervention would bring "failure just like in all the previous wars they waged"

Syrian President Bashar Assad is deriding America’s past military debacles in Vietnam and Iraq, as he tries to fend off Western intervention in his country’s civil war.

Military intervention, Assad said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia, would bring “failure just like in all the previous wars they waged, starting with Vietnam and up to our days.”

Assad reiterated his denial that his forces had used chemical weapons, calling the accusation an “outrage against common sense” and said it was “not us but our enemies who are using chemical weapons.”

An Obama Administration official said there’s “very little doubt” that the Syrian government used chemical weapons in the attack last Wednesday, crossing what President Barack Obama last year called a “redline.” U.N. inspectors on their way to inspect the site of the attack drew sniper fire Monday and were momentarily forced to turn back.

THE WEST NEEDS TO BRING FEAR INTO THE HEARTS OF TYRANTS...

IF ASSAD IS BACKED BY TYRANTS, THESE TYRANTS CAN TOO BE BACKED INTO FEARFUL POSITIONS...  IF THEY THINK THEY HAVE WEAPONS, JUST WAIT UNTIL THEY GET THE AMERICAN DEATH MACHINE ON THEM, NOT TO MENTION ISRAEL GOLIATH KILLER MACHINE----

AMERICA DID NOT LOSE THE WARS, AMERICA SIMPLY DID NOT WANT THE REAL ESTATE.... OVER A MILLION VIETNAMESE KILLED, AND PROBABLY SO IN IRAQ, DOES NOT GIVE ANYONE THE SENSE TO BOAST ABOUT BEATING AMERICA...

AMERICA HAS WON EVERY WAR, DEATH WISE, SINCE THE WORLD HAS A HISTORY OF IT... AMERICA HAS NEVER LOST, AND IF WE DO, WE WILL BRING DEATH UPON THE EARTH ITSELF, IF AMERICA IS TOO BIG FOR THE WORLD, THE WORLD IS TOO SMALL FOR THE TRASH, DEATH, HELL AND DESTRUCTION AMERICA WILL LEAVE BEHIND ITS WAR PATH...

WANT WAR - WANT AMERICA

This time there won't be troops on the ground but cruise missiles and airstrikes on selected targets like palaces, command centers, barracks, airfields, missile sites, etc. Mr. Assad, I'm sure your opponents know exactly where you and your commanders are at all times. Let's see how long it takes for your opponents to find you hiding in a sewer like your compadres Saddam and Gaddafi.

Obama "threatening to attack Syria"..... just hogwash...

just days ago:

"Syrian sources said on Monday that US Secretary of State John Kerry has assured Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem that Washington will not launch a military attack on Syria.:

Why is this administration so hell-bent on deceiving the American public?

Sure, Obama needs a war to distract American public from real issues.... but now, just threatening over the media about war????

Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Victorovich Lavrov: «One very wise man in response to the charges in the address of the UN in the fact that it is not enough what does and does not in a position to stop constantly appearing somewhere conflicts, he said that the UN was not created in order to make the earth a Paradise, but for the fact that humanity was not in hell."

Lakhdar Brahimi: "if the only alternative is really hell or a political process, then all of us should work tirelessly for a political process."

Assad's failure to deal with opposition rationally is the root of all this trouble. Let's be clear about that.

However, when he says, "Failure awaits the United States as in all previous wars it has unleashed, starting with Vietnam and up to the present day" he's spot on.

Vietnam -- a fiasco and a failure. Millions dead.

Iraq -- a fiasco and a failure. It's now an Iranian ally.

Afghanistan - a fiasco and a failure. Back to the Taliban.

The US did triumph over Grenada, and its intervention in the Dominican Republic was successful, of course.

"But Assad's great miscalculation is in not realizing that at some point the costs of inaction simply outweigh the cost of action for Washington and its allies. It does not serve the United States, the European Union, or anyone else well to be seen as feckless in the face of such horrors. It undermines the legitimacy of the international order and makes it more likely that other despots will employ similar tactics. "

The US and Britain have just declared they will act whether the UN Security Council agrees or not. By the brilliant light of George W. Bush's reasoning -- and the criminal actions of his and Obama's administrations -- we've validated a preemptive strike by Syria.

OK, there is no international law. We all see that. Let loose the dogs of war.

Who the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

About the relationship between President Bashar Assad and Secretary of State John Kerry told French intellectual Thierry Meyssan

President Bashar al-Assad stressed that Syria is a sovereign country that will fight terrorism and will freely build relationships with countries in a way that best serves the interests of the Syrian people.

In an interview with the Russian newspaper of Izvestia, President al-Assad stressed that "the majority of those we are fighting are Takfiris, who adopt the al-Qaeda doctrine, in addition to a small number of outlaws."

On the alleged use of chemical weapons, President al-Assad said that the statements by the US administration, the West and other countries were made with disdain and blatant disrespect of their own public opinion, adding that "there isn’t a body in the world, let alone a superpower, that makes an accusation and then goes about collecting evidence to prove its point."

Bashar al-Assad stressed that these accusations are completely politicised and come on the back of the advances made by the Syrian Army against the terrorists.

President of the Syrian Arab Republic told about threat of US invasion, about his relationship with Putin and about common fate of Russian and Syrian people.

Mr Assad, you are correct. Still, the regime fell in Vietnam (albeit replaced by another one), pretty much like Hussein in Iraq. So in the end, our perceived failures and our perceived reluctance to learn from them will have the same impact on your regime: you are on your way OUT!

Assad is correct in his historical assessment of the U.S. global interference.  All failures.  But as is typical, that never stops the U.S. from continuing its interference, even though the vast majority of Americans want nothing to do with it.

The second quote is from Foreign Policy Magazine, by an apologist of the American administration. It's an example of the kind of ridiculous "justification" being offered up as a rationale for these criminal actions it apparently plans."

There will be no war. Barack Obama is bluffing.

Russia possesses the right of veto in the United Nations, as the country-the winner of the World War II.

It is very dangerous to revise the results of the WWII. Resolution on intervention in Syria through the United Nations not take place - this we guarantee.

Russia has restored its permanent presence in the Mediterranean sea. If necessary, naval grouping will be strengthened, so that in the Mediterranean sea will be very closely.

Comparative characteristics of anti-ship cruise missiles of different countries. Supersonic I marked with a red dot for the sake of clarity. Pay attention to "terrible" the American missile "Harpoon"

@Sibir_Russia  The United Nations is funded by America and is only a tool for feminine nations to resolve problems... Real men do not fear homosexuals, why should we?

@Sibir_Russia Did Russia ask for UN permission to pulverize Chechnya or Georgia? I don't think US intervention in Syria will go well for anyone, but Russian nationalists are funny ones to talk about restraint.

@Sibir_Russia

The US and Britain have already declared that the UN Security Council is irrelevant. So Russia's veto won't stop this.

Only Russian and Iranian weapons in place will deter this madness. With its insane declarations about proceeding without the UN, the US and the British poodle have declared that international law no longer exists.

I really hope you're correct, and that Obama will just launch some cruise missile attacks at a few military installations, wave his Johnson a few times at the world, and STFU. (If you notice contempt in my voice, I can say Obama has earned it with these dumb-*ss moves.)

Syria has exactly the "right" to preemptive action that both Israel and the US claim all the time.

My real worry is the rogue Israeli state -- which may use this as a pretext to launch its own attacks. I hope Russia has made it clear to these lunatics that Israel will suffer major damage in such an event, and will be foolish to start a war with Russia. Your government has to be serious, and determined in this course. Pick your targets well -- disabling the IAF will prevent an israeli strike on Iran, for example, and make the children of Lebanon a bit safer.

The chart is in Russian, many, if not most of the American readership can't read it.

Our trump cards in peacetime - is international law (including veto in the UN).
Russia has diplomatic relations with Israel.
Israel is not interested in waging war in the middle East with anyone.

DEFCON 3 after 9\11? Why should we copy of Americans DEFCON?
Russia peace country. We is not going to wage war with the United States and Britain. the ball on the U.S. side. Barack Obama is bluffing. We won't copy such equivalent .

V. Putin "the U.S. of being interested in relations with Moscow because Russia was the only country that could destroy the U.S. in half an hour or less."

@Sibir_Russia

I think the only thing that might restore some sanity is for Russia to move its forces to the equivalent of the American DEFCON 3, and make that fact public in the loudest way possible.

If the USA and the UK is not going to observe the UN Charter,  declare about it to his people and close its membership in this organization. An attack on Syria is also a violation of the NATO Charter. Let NATO  rewrite the Charter.

Russia has called on the United States and other countries to act sensibly because a search for excuses to justify any possible military intervention in Syria bypassing the UN Security Council (UNSC) might result in a catastrophe, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.
