U.S. Senator John McCain, left, with Senator Lindsey Graham in Cairo on Aug. 6, 2013

Not to be outdone by Putin, Senator John McCain agreed Friday to write a column in a Russian newspaper responding to the Russian president’s widely circulated New York Times Op-Ed. The agreement was made after a some investigative matchmaking on the part of Foreign Policy magazine.

It all started when  John McCain joked that he would “love to have a commentary in Pravda” in a Thursday night CNN interview.  John Hudson, a reporter at Foreign Policy, decided to play yenta.

Hudson called Dmitri Sudakov, English editor of Pravda, and asked whether his newspaper would publish something by McCain. Sudakov, who acknowledged the Arizona Republican’s anti-Russian stance, said he would be “pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain.”

When Hudson contacted McCain’s office with the news, communications director Brian Rogers responded within minutes saying that the Senator would welcome the opportunity to further the international dialogue. “There are a lot of issues that I’m sure Sen. McCain would want to address,” Rogers said. “Democracy and human rights in Russia and certainly the Putin regime’s aiding and abetting of the Syrian regime, which has killed 100,000 of its own people.”

Is the cold war being taken  out of the deepfreeze?Having caught a cold war chill I never could quite shake, the current frosty relations between Obama and Putin send a shiver down my spine, as childhood memories of the cold war are quickly defrosted.

Uncle Sam was certain that the Soviets were not only concealing the truth but waging a campaign of hatred against us and our peaceful motives, embarking on his own campaign to dispel the lies and promote the American way of life. The deepening mistrust and accusations of lying between the US and Russia feels like deja vu all over again. A visual look at truth, lies and the cold war http://wp.me/p2qifI-1Et

McCain shouldn't be answering anybody. McCain is just a trouble making old man that's determined to start a war with Russia and about a dozen other countries. McCain is a sick and dangerous mad man

I think the native "Pravda" http://www.gazeta-pravda.ru/  has long been degraded - alas this is a little-known newspaper for old people.
Poor fool management, lack of new forms and no new ideas.
In the USSR, it was central to the well-known newspaper, experienced journalists.

It was State Newspaper - more than CommunistNewspaper.
Now only communist - and
not all communists love Zyuganov.

I think it's about a false or fake web "Pravda".

Here is the communists madia - see original label    http://www.gazeta-pravda.ru/

In the newspaper "Pravda" nobody knows that Senator McCain is going to publish your stuff there . This was announced by the chief editor Boris Komotskii, State Duma deputy from the Communists. "Pravda" is considered the main press organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party.

On the idea of John McCain, one of the most influential politicians in the US, its publication in the "Pravda" should be a response to Putin's article in The New York Times. However Komotskii said that he had "learned with astonishment" about the plans of a US senator. Later, admitted communist, he got the idea that McCain may be in talks with "Pravda Oklahoma City. "Anyway, Komotskii asks the question:" What's it to pay - in rubles or dollars?".

McCain tells where the disappeared Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

He will explain what happened to the Libyan democracy, and explain why the yields of heroin in Afghanistan increased by forty times.

Sorry, Eltsyn closed it in 1991, first thing he did than he seized the power.

Pravda (Truth) was founded in 1912 and closed by Eltsyn and his gang in 1993. Present day internet site has nothing to do with it. Obviously, democracy does not need truth, democracy needs propaganda and brain washing. McCain-style.

> Syrian regime, which has killed 100,000 of its own people.

Maybe old warmonger should get his facts straight before embarrassing himself once again like with Elizabeth O'Bagy.

~42% of those 100K is Syrian soldiers, ~20+% is "rebels" (terrorists, really), and ~37% is civilians who died in course of confrontation between first two, and terrorists probably hold doubtful honor of most kills.

Not like he care of course about such things as "pravda".

Pravda? lol This man just woke up after 25 years of lethargic sleep. I am not sure Pravda is still exist. And even if it is still exist nobody read it nowadays. Americans are victims of their own stereotypes about Russia. Russia is not USSR. Don't make yourself look fool.

"Pravda"? Why not "Zheleznogorsk railroad workers pioner?" LOL.

People like McCain disgrace his country and generates a silly stereotype that all Americans are stupid. (its of course not true, but when people around world see, how american citizens elect people like him again and again, they start thinking about, maybe this stereotype based on this decisions of american people?)

As i see on that quote :“Democracy and human rights in Russia and certainly the Putin regime’s aiding and abetting of the Syrian regime, which has killed 100,000 of its own people.” - he cant say something new to Russia, only this old propaganda stuff, which even dont make us laugh (like it was before, becouse all who live in Russia, or even was there understand how this propaganda far from reality) today, its just boring and disgust

One of my favorite writers Erich Maria Remark says about people like McCain:  "So hard to be in a room with a man when he is trying to demonstrate their intelligence, especially if the intelligence had not"

American policymakers need to think about what they say, or they look very silly.

What Putin Has to Say to Americans About Syria

What Putin say is true. But how come Obama and US get angry with that?

Putin ask US to abide UN's rules. What's wrong with that?

Putin ask US not to strike Syria without UN's agreement. Isn't it right?

Putin ask Obama to use the peace way instead of a warmonger's way. Ain't that right?

US have made wars in Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Syria, etc. All the wars there are not finished yet. People killed every week. Ain't that enough?

So why get angry about Putin's advise?

Both people in Syria are killing each other. It's US support to the rebels make the war longer. Imagine if foreign countries support US rebels in Civil War.

Pravda? I actually used to be a member of their now defunct forums. One of the few "freedom of speech" places on the net in the buildup to the Iraq war. But the racism is what killed it. Freedom of speech taken too far.

Pravda has a limited circulation however. It's not the mouthpiece for the Soviet Union anymore. Russia Today has eclipsed it with a more progressive format geared to a younger Russia. McCain is perhaps talking to an older, more conservative Russia. Old communists. So perhaps this is why Pravda is going to let him speak?

Uh, Grampy McCain, Putin runs all the media in Russia, why not work with our president instead of a old world communist oligarch like Putin?

oldwhiteguy

Sit down, John, sit down. Putin's article, the Russian initiative and OUR RESPONSE may actually prevent a war. But the GOP aging white guys can't chest thump enough because Putin wrote a self-serving essay. John, you're not the President. You ran for President and you lost, big time. Your party tried again and lost again, big time. Go back and tell your buddies in the House to do some work instead of wasting $42 million in tax payer money posturing for the rubes back home by voting against Obamacare. Your little offer to Pravda is the same kind of theatrics. Only this time, it could actually do some damage. So, sit down, John. Sara Palin is on line two.

@mrxexon

I think this is such a stupid joke, and say that in modern Russia the main media is still the newspaper Pravda. (Pravda is not just a newspaper, it was the main newspaper of the Communist party of the USSR, we can say the official mouthpiece)

I was surprised that it still exists, but I google it and learned that this is so, the right to brand this newspaper belongs to the successor of the Communist party of the USSR - the KPRF (Communist party of the Russian Federation) and today as 40-50 years ago, the newspaper Pravda is the mouthpiece of the KPRF.
