A South Korean fisherman abducted 41 years ago escaped through an unnamed third country and returned home to his family, officials confirmed.

Jeon Wook Pyo, 67, is the only one of 25 fisherman to be heard from since their boat was seized by the North Koreans in the Yellow Sea in 1972, Bloomberg reports. He was working as a truck driver in North Korea before he escaped last month.

He underwent questioning by authorities in South Korea, a required step for most defectors from the North. South Korea says that the North is holding more than 500 of its nationals since a spate of abductions following the de facto end of the Korean War in 1953.
