President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya said Tuesday that the armed militants who have killed dozens since storming an upscale Nairobi mall on Saturday have finally been subdued, the AP reports.
Three floors of the Westgate mall, where a group of al-Shabaab terrorists killed and held victims hostage for days, have collapsed in the process, Kenyatta said. The death toll now stands at 72, with more bodies still trapped inside the building.
Kenyan authorities claimed to have the situation under control Monday, but the violence continued into Tuesday. But this is the first time Kenyatta himself has said the standoff is over.
