Two men pleaded not guilty Friday to the grisly killing of an off-duty British solider in London, in an apparent terrorist attack that shocked the country, the Associated Press reports.

Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale are accused of participating in the May attack, in which police say they drove into the victim and then got out of the car to hack him with machetes. The attackers then allegedly dragged the body into the middle of the London street and asked bystanders to photograph and film them.

Adebolajo and Adebowale, who were shot by police and placed under armed guard in a hospital following the incident, also denied charges of conspiracy and attempt to murder a police officer.
