The German Olympic team on Tuesday revealed its uniforms for the upcoming winter games in Russia, and many immediately saw them as a swipe at the host country’s anti-gay laws — the bright, rainbow-colored uniforms invoke the rainbow flag of the has become a symbol of the gay rights movement.

But a German Olympic official says it’s just “fashionable.”

Russia has come under fire ahead  of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi for its record on gay rights, including a recent law that bans “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations.”

The official description says the German uniforms “were created using colors and materials specially tailored to the conditions in Sochi, Spiegel Online reports.

“This is just a fashionable jacket,” said Michael Vesper, a German Olympic official.

Olympic is a non-political assembly globally of sportsmanship, not to fight over gender. Whoever has the physical prowess and a strategic mindset, are valuable contestants, not gender.

There are no gay Germans. The last gay German left the country on the last U-Boat for Uruguay in 1947. They have photos and affidavits to prove it. He was last seen alive at a Inca orgy in the company of some Bolivian cocaine growers and a Mossad agent in 1961. There are, however, elves. And, as you know, elves will have sex with anything it if stands still long enough, and they do dress so... "sparkly". So, as you might imagine, the situation is often confusing, and the elves like it just that way. If cornered, you must always ask an elf: are you a boy elf or a girl elf? Girl elves will answer straight away, because they are honest and polite and have no shortage of suitors of both genders on beck and call. On the other hand, boy elves will hesitate and try to hedge their bet by asking, well, which are you? Govern yourself accordingly.

So people should be punished for being LGBT or LGBT Allies? That is bigotry. Russia has bigoted laws.

One more time for ignorants: NO EXIST ANTY-GAY LAWS IN RUSSIA!!! There is a law against PROPAGANDA of homosexuasism for UNDERAGES! Let children grow up and then decide by themselves is they want to be gays! Let them have normal childhood!

@frankherner223 no one in Russia made the accusations, it was the sensationalist press in the west that did.

@Jacob Staven people aren't punished for being gay in Russia.  There are plenty of gay bars and gay celebrities.

There is however a draconian law preventing promoting anything gay in the country, mostly aimed at celebrities and activists trying to promote gay right in Russia, but it's incredibly different than punishing everyone that is gay or a gay ally.

@Sara Alexandra Skye well aren't you a nasty piece of work.  Putin's executive office originally opposed the idea, it was a falling political party, United Russia that proposed the law to distract the public from there incompetence.

You're just a horrible nasty person.  I feel sorry that the hatred inside you needs to lash out at an entire nation and you do it under the guise of altruism.

When your argument is built on the premise that homosexuals are going to try to influence the sexual orientation of children then it's pretty evident that you and Putin and everyone who supports that legislation has something wrong with their heads. It's called delusion.

@Kristina Polansky When you can get jail time for even mentioning you have a same sex partner, I would assume that is pretty Anti-gay. From what I have heard, hate crimes aren't even looked into by the police so kidnapping and assualts against LGBT people are pretty much rampant and overlooked.
