Doctors found blood in the brain of the Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez on Saturday after she suffered a head injury. They ordered a month’s rest, the Associated Press reports.
A spokesman for Fernandez said she suffered a previously undisclosed “skull trauma” on Aug. 12. A CAT scan in August had shown that nothing was wrong.
Fernandez, 60, went to a hospital Saturday to get an irregular heartbeat checked. Doctors looked at her skull again and found that she had a chronic subdural collection, a problem that often requires surgery to prevent brain damage. On doctor’s orders, Fernandez won’t be able to campaign for her party before the key congressional midterm elections on Oct. 27.
