Report: Navy Seals Aborted Somalian Raid Because Children Were Present

The covert operation was intended to capture a terrorist there

A special operations force cut short its mission to capture a terror suspect in Somalia Friday in part because a group of children unexpectedly showed up, NBC reports.

The Pentagon acknowledged Monday that the U.S. attempted and failed to capture Ikrima, a Kenyan of Somali origin linked to the Somali terror organization al-Shabab.

Citing military sources, NBC says sailors from the elite Seal Team 6 snuck onto the beach, arrived at the compound and identified Ikrima before being spotted by an al-Shabab fighter. That fighter called in others and began firing, putting the special operations team under siege. The Seal Team withdrew back to the beach in part because it believed a sustained firefight would endanger a group of nearby children, according to NBC.

The team withdrew uninjured, NBC reports.

In a statement, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said, “While the operation did not result in Ikrima’s capture, U.S. military personnel conducted the operation with unparalleled precision and demonstrated that the United States can put direct pressure on al-Shabaab leadership at any time of our choosing.”

Complete rhetoric. The first thing you learn when you go through Security detail training is how to use the media for propaganda purposes. Whatever you read, is the furthest thing from the truth.  If you believed what you read, then you would have thought Pat Tillman died defending his comrades in a fierce firefight against Afghan fighters.. When in reality, he was cut off, engaging his own unit and died alone, fallen by friendly fire on a mission that was so poorly organized that more than 12 Officers were demoted or downright discharged due to the FUBAR

Oh, please, as if they cared about children...

 They train South American soldiers how to torture civilians (in the School of the Americas), they finance and train terrorists (in Nicaragua and Afghanistan), they overthrow democracies and replace them with dictatorships (in Indonesia and Chile), and yet they care about children. This is the joke of the millennium!!!

Oh really!  Do SEALS take care of Children ?

Its Joke of This Millennium!

No US Army has jokes for their failures! I hope people can add links of attacks on Afghan Weddings in which they killed women and children but I think they were all armed suspects!!! Shame on you USA for killing millions in IRAQ, Afghanistan and Pakistan and Libya and now helping killings in Syria and Palestinian kids by Israelis.  Stop lies!!!

"NBC says soldiers from the elite Seal Team 6" - Seal Team Six is comprised of Sailors, not Soldiers.

Oh great!  I expect all terrorists now to make sure they have tons of children always around them!  Who on earth makes the decisions to give out information that will obviously be used to change tactics by the terrorists !!!  Best would be to say that the mission was aborted due to unforeseen circumstances and end it there!

Why exactly is this being reported?  Do we really want to tell terrorist groups that the way to protect themseleves from US special forces raids is to keep lots of kids in their compounds?  Way to go Time!

Thank God we are not killing kids on purpose! We're doing something right. Kudos to the commander who made that judgement call and damnation for any superiors who don't see its' rightness.

@DavidLevinsn I'm not sure why this raid is being reported at all.  Why does our military feel the need to publicize a secret mission, especially then nothing of note was accomplished?

@Karl

This time we aren't killing kids on purpose, but there are many documented cases of our military not being respectful of the lives of innocents.
