Maldives’ first round of presidential election will be held in the first week of November, according to elections-commission president Fuwad Thowfeek. The announcement comes after the police blocked a vote on Saturday for being in conflict with a Supreme Court ruling.

A runoff will be held on Nov. 16, if no candidate wins 50% of the Nov. 9 vote.

Maldives, a high-end tourist destination, has been in political turmoil since its first democratically elected President, Mohamed Nasheed, was forced to resign in February last year, allegedly in a coup.
