Scientists in Switzerland who performed the first forensic tests on the remains of late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat found found higher-than-normal levels of polonium-210, deepening suspicions he might have been poisoned.

The 108-page report (PDF) found toxin levels at least 18 times higher than normal in his pelvis and ribs, and in the soil that absorbed fluids leaked from his body. A copy of the report, which was given to representatives of Suha Arafat, his widow, was exclusively obtained by Al Jazeera and shared with the Guardian. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Suha called his Arafat’s death “The crime of the century.”

Arafat died in a French military hospital in 2004, nearly a month after falling ill in the West Bank. The samples used for the analysis were obtained from the corpse, which was exhumed from a mausoleum in Ramallah last November.

Cool James Bond stuff.

So he was murdered by the Israeli government because he became an embarrassment holed up in his bombed out administrative center and he refused to disappear. Sharon was Prime Minister of Israel then. He went in for an operation after Arafat's death and has been in a coma ever since. Divine judgement?

@Karl Divine judgement? Oh, you must be referring to the holocaust right? If not, then dont ever assume to know what God is thinking or doing.

@BenIncaHutz @Karl I think about that a lot myself. Where was God? And during so many other places and times. MIA. Like most folks I have ideas and beliefs that I was taught and that I figured out that are incompatible. The Bible in one place says it rains on the just and the unjust too. One of the better quotes from the Bible. But I like many was taught that God will punish you for your sins in this life or the next and it was from that soapbox I was writing above. I take your point to heart though. BUT if Sharon OK'd the murder then if not divine judgement, an interesting and even provocative (thought provoking) coincidence.

@Karl @BenIncaHutz Last time I checked humans have free will and we can make our own decisions. If you think that the action of humans acting on their own can some how be seen as divine judgement then please let me know your name and address so I can have some guys in white jump suits take you to a nice padded room. Murder is murder and just because the victim was not friendly to jews does make the act special in anyway shape or form. Its that holier then thou attitude that leads to antisemitism.
