Albanian environmental activists celebrate the announcement by Prime Minister Edi Rama saying he turned down a request by the United States to be part of an operation to destroy Syria's chemical weapons stockpile in Tirana, November 15, 2013.

In a major setback to the Russian-U.S. deal to dismantle Syria’s chemical weapons program by mid-2014, Albania announced Friday that it rejected a U.S. request for the Balkan nation to receive and destroy the stockpile.

“It is impossible for Albania to get involved in this operation,” said Prime Minister Edi Rama in a televised address. The decision comes amid days of large opposition demonstrations in the capital Tirana as Rama mulled whether Albania, which destroyed its own arsenal with U.S. help in 2004, would agree to the proposal.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the Hague-based international watchdog that is overseeing the process, wouldn’t elaborate to Reuters on where else the U.S. and Russia may look to get rid of more than 1,000 metric tons of sarin, mustard and various agents.

This is, clearly, the latest case of Obama''s America shrinking in respect and influence, worldwide. But, of course, this decline could have been predicted when a man who knows entire administrative experience has been a position as a community leader in Chicago, and who is equipped with that which he absorbed during his 20 years of "sitting under" the Rev. J. Wright of Chicago, and the nonsense injected into his ears by the likes of E. Said and R. Khalidi of New York. From the Middle East, to Russia, to Europe, to Latin America, the Appeaser-in-Chief is failing America.

We apparently haven't "found their price" yet.

How about Russia? Being a close ally of Syria and Assad, it is a suitable region.

Wouldn't the best place to destroy these weapons is the country where they are found--Syria?  Failing this the next best place is either Russia or US.  After all they started the scheme.

Apparently "Albanian environmental activists" are set on reinforcing the stereotype of Albanians as backward & stupid. Yes, let's not destroy these things at the closest available facilities, which are in Albania, in order to do so with the lowest risk to people & the environment. Let's send them further afield.

Pretty amusing.  The U.S. threatens to obliterate Syria if they don't get rid of their chemical weapons, but when disposal gets turned over to them, they can't find anyone willing to handle it.   More American propaganda exposed.  Maybe America should begin bombing its own cities until they get rid of those chemical weapons.

Norway was the first country to be asked to accept these chemicals so the Norwegians are backward; stupid; and dogs.  Great logic gentleman!

It seems ironic that a person such as yourself automatically assumes about stereotypes, yet doesn't look at the reality that the people do not want the chemical agents within their borders.  And the government does not have the capacity to dismantle 1000 metric tons of chemical weapons.  I don't know where you are from but there are countries closer than Albania that can dismantle the weapons (Greece; Turkey; Israel; Russia; and the good 'ol US of A.  The chemical weapons shouldn't be used as a bargaining chip against Albania.

If the US and Russia are so adament about getting rid of the chemical weapons they should be more than willing to bring it within their own borders.  It seems no one wants this hot potato and yet you automatically assume based on the countries economic situation that the people are inferior.  I think you should ask yourself how smart are you because the Albanians are not stupid to let weapons of mass destruction enter their borders.  I'm sure you tyrone don't mind having them brought to your backyard because you are not backwards and not stupid.  Enjoy the Syrian chemicals.
