A suicide bomber crashed his car into an Afghan army vehicle near a compound where Afghanistan tribal elders, politicians and leaders are expected to meet next week to discuss the future presence of U.S. troops in the country.
At least six people were killed and 22 injured in the Saturday blast, Reuters reports, which took place just 100 yards from a tent where more than 2,000 of the nation’s elite will convene Thursday to determine whether to allow some U.S. troops to remain in Afghanistan after 2014.
Just hours before the crash, President Hamid Karzai called on the Taliban to participate in the Loya Jirga assembly, or a traditional Afghan meeting on national issues.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
