Twelve people died in Algeria and another 240 were injured as fans celebrated the country’s World Cup qualifier win on Tuesday, officials said.

A government statement on Wednesday said five fans were killed when a van slid off a road into a ravine in Bejaia, a mountain town east of Algiers, the Associated Press reports. Four others died in a car accident in the southern city Biskra. The statement didn’t provide details on how the remaining three died. Many of the injuries were reportedly sustained in car accidents.

Algeria held off Burkina Faso on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win, making for a 3-3 aggregate tie and a victory on away goals. Four other African nations will join Algeria for the World Cup next year: Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
