As nuclear negotiations with Iran resume in Geneva today, a new poll by the Washington Post and ABC News finds the majority of Americans would support an agreement between major world powers and Iran that would scale back its nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

64 percent of the 1,006 adults polled by Abt-SRBI between Nov. 14-17 said they would support an agreement between Iran and the six major world powers—meeting in Geneva today—that would ease some of the economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic in return for restrictions on its ability to produce nuclear weapons. 30 percent of the respondents said they would oppose the agreement.

But when asked how assured they were that the agreement would actually prevent Iran from developing the weapons, only 36 percent were either somewhat or very confident, while 61 percent were more pessimistic.

So, in one response, you insult Americans, condemn Israel, obfuscate the reality of the issue and exaggerate like a five year old by multiplying the subject by a thousand in a petulant rage. Well done.

Well Patti, what i llked isn't the view expressed but the words with which it is expressed. I'm all for a rapprochement between the U.S. and Iran. You guys have quarreled for too long. It's time to agree to disagree on the nuclear issue.

The people who propose their bombing plans in the comments should first learn to find Iran on the map.

That vast majority of Americans don't realize how easy it is to build a nuclear weapon. Or how untrustworthy these people are or how strong their dislike is for us

Can the majority of Americans find Iran on a map?

It's a start for peace. This is one of those countries that we don't want as an active enemy. Peace has to start somewhere. For those who prefer hate, seriously--what would you suggest--war with a country that we wouldn't win?

No doubt the majority of Americans, as for the international community, support peace with Iran

Riiiiight, I mean totally forgive and forget. That little diplomatic situation in '79 was just a minor mixup. They totally changed for the better. [/sarcasm]

Still less ridiculous than alliance with Pakis and Arabs - Historically, Iranian people (and government) have been friendlier towards the US compared the others in the region; despite what happened in the past 33 years, still many are pro-america (not even pro-Europe) It would be for the Americas interest and the middle east stability that these two countries reach a mutual agreement, IMO

I agree unless it means what I consider impossible; Iran agrees to discontinue and then abandon all development of nuclear technology. Who in their right mind believes they will agree to that?

Buoyed by these poll results, Obama/Kerry should march on and secure an agreement with Iran. Israel has been a distraction for too long and now they have a vested interest in supporting the radicals in Saudi Arabia, who wish to hold on to Sunni power. The World expects Obama to prove that he legitimately earned the Nobel Peace Prize and here is his chance
