And it's really, really below zero

With snow and ice falling in North America, new data about record cold weather in Antarctica puts things into some perspective.

New analysis from a NASA satellite revealed that East Antarctica reached minus-135.8 degrees fahrenheit in August 2010, NBC reports, the coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth. Antarctica hit close to that temperature again on July 31,2013 when it reached minus-135.3 degrees.

In announcing the data Monday, the National Snow and Ice Data Center’s Ted Scambos said that the temperature is “50 degrees colder than anything that has ever been seen in Alaska or Siberia or certainly North Dakota. … It’s more like you’d see on Mars on a nice summer day in the poles.”

More carbon and the like is blasted into the atmosphere in one day from an active volcano than all man made carbon emissions have since the dawn of time.

I always say: it will be funny if man made global warming found out to be saving the world from snowball earth.

If this global warming thing gets any worse I'm going to be forced to cut more trees for firewood this winter.

@kenihkwc88 its been argued that carbon emissions played a part in bringing the globe out of the little ice age.

@rcampbell Al Gore currently has his fingers in his ears going "LA LA LA LA I CANT HEAR YOU!"

@MarkCornish @rcampbell What part of "climate change" don't you get. More solar heat being retained in the atmosphere means more extreme weather events worldwide. That means bigger hurricanes, stronger tornadoes, more flooding, more deserts and, yes, more temperature extremes. Remember, when you stick your head in the sand, you look like an a$$.

@bvalantinas Yeah, blame everything on global warming. Temperatures drop and it's because the Earth is warming up? Who sounds like an a$$?

@bvalantinas @MarkCornish @rcampbell Good clear explanation of results of climate change.Thank you! To those of you who don't "get it" , please study the subject.. We WILL run out of time to make changes!!

@bryanfred1 it's just a theory not a fact. The fact is they have have theory's and not much else. For millions of years the planet has been changing. We had no hand in the last ice age or it's reversal yet it still happened , just as whatever is taking place now. We may have sped something up but we are not going to stop it

Thank you.  Please copy your comments to Mr. Gore, the biggest a$$ in the myth of human caused climate change.
