A security guard was strangled to death Thursday while battling a huge python at a Bali beachfront hotel.

Ambar Arianto Mulyo, 59, was killed when the 13-foot snake overcame him and crushed his neck with its grip AFP reports. Mulyo’s friends were nearby at the Bali Hyatt hotel but were too afraid to intervene, said police chief Gusti Ngurah Yudistira.

The snake remains at large and police have warned tourists to stay on alert while visiting the popular Indonesian holiday retreat.
