Vice President Joe Biden delivers a speech next to the coffin of late Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon outside the Knesset, Israel's Parliament, in Jerusalem, Jan. 13, 2014.

Vice President Joe Biden praised the political courage of late Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Monday and called him a “complex man” at a memorial ceremony for the statesman who died Saturday.

Biden joined former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other world dignitaries at the state farewell for Sharon, who died after eight years in a coma, the Associated Press reports. “He was indomitable,” Biden said, noting his decades-long friendship with Sharon. “But like all historic leaders, all real leaders, he had a North Star that guided him. A North Star from which he never, in my observation, never deviated. His North Star was the survival of the state of Israel and the Jewish people wherever they resided.”

A general who led Israel’s turnaround in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Sharon was known as “the bulldozer,” a hardline politician who was elected prime minister in 2001. He oversaw Israel’s troop withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and later left the conservative Likud party to establish the centrist Kadima party.

“The political courage it took, whether you agreed with him or not, when he told 10,000 Israelis to leave their homes in Gaza, in order from his perspective to strengthen Israel… I can’t think of a more difficult and controversial decision he made,” Biden said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who resigned from Sharon’s cabinet in protest of the Gaza withdrawal, called the late prime minister “a man of actions,” the AP reports.

“His pragmatism was rooted in deep emotion, deep emotion for the country and deep emotion for the Jewish people,” Netanyahu said.

Authorities instituted heavy security around the ceremony remembering a man who was reviled in the Arab world. On Monday, Palestinian militants fired four rockets toward Israel, two of which landed in open areas on the Israeli side of the border with Gaza.

The prime minister of the Czech Republic and foreign ministers from Australia and Germany were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony, which even included a low-level diplomat from Egypt, the AP reports.

“The same iron determination he took to the field of war he took to the chamber of diplomacy,” Blair said. “Bold. Unorthodox. Unyielding.

George Washington ( in Maxims of George Washington by A. A. Appleton & Co.):

"They (the Jews) work more effectively against us, than the enemy's armies. They are a hundred times more dangerous to our liberties and the great cause we are engaged in... It is much to be lamented that each state, long ago, has not hunted them down as pest to society and the greatest enemies we have to the happiness of America." George Washington

Albert Einstein's 1948 Letter to the New York Times

Albert Einstein, who was a great humanitarian and peace activist in addition to being one of the greatest scientists of all time. In his landmark letter to the New York Times in 1948, Einstein clearly and candidly explained why the leaders of Israel were not to be trusted and did not deserve money or support from Americans, including American Jews who believe in equality and democracy for all human beings. You can see a scanned image of the Einstein Letter by clicking the hyperlink. The letter was written by Albert Einstein, Hannah Arendt, Sidney Hook and more than 20 other prominent Jewish intellectuals, to alert Americans and the larger world to the dangers represented by the emergence of racism, fascism, terrorism and religious fanaticism among the Zionist leadership of the newly-formed state of Israel. The letter accurately predicted some of the terrible results we see today. I have annotated the letter with [bracketed comments] to help readers understand how the "Einstein Letter" relates to the present situation.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST MOST CUNNING DANGEROUS TERRORIST ORGANIZATION GROUP IN THE WORLD AND IN OUR TIME.

Among the most disturbing political phenomena of our times is the emergence in the newly created state of Israel of the "Freedom Party" (Tnuat Haherut), a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties. It was formed out of the membership and following of the former Irgun Zvai Leumi, a terrorist, right-wing, chauvinist organization in Palestine. The current visit of Menachem Begin, leader of this party, to the United States is obviously calculated to give the impression of American support for his party in the coming Israeli elections, and to cement political ties with conservative Zionist elements in the United States. Several Americans of national repute have lent their names to welcome his visit. It is inconceivable that those who oppose fascism throughout the world, if correctly informed as to Mr. Begin's political record and perspectives, could add their names and support to the movement he represents.

He just means that if you don't understand why a landgrabber is being honored, it's because you have not considered the complexities enough.

Who the hell cares what Biden said or did not say. The aricle should be more about Sharon rather than what Biden the buffoon said.

@delight   Quite the opposite.  We Jews (less than 0,2% of the world population) gave a disproportionate amount of great artists and scientists, a moral code to the Western world, the bible, a Saviour for today`s 2 billion Christians who also happens to be "prophet" in Islam (because the Arab that invented this religion was obsessed with Jews and the Jewish capital, Jerusalem).
