Putin: Law Banning Gay Propaganda Is Not the Same Thing as Persecution

Calls it a "big difference"

Russian President Vladimir Putin soothed anxieties over terrorist threats ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi next month and addressed international unease with Russia’s anti-gay laws in interviews with Russian and foreign broadcasters Sunday.

Putin defended a Russian law passed last year that bans propaganda of homosexuality, telling ABC’s This Week that it is a necessary protection against pedophilia and has “nothing to do with persecuting individuals for their nontraditional orientation.” He emphasized that all Russians are treated equally, and even mentioned Russians’ love of Elton John.

Putin also addressed issues of security, noting that Russia is accustomed to hosting secure events such as the G-8 and G-20 summits. A total of 40,000 law-enforcement personnel will be present at the Olympics.

Chechen insurgents who want to carve out an Islamic state in southern Russia have threatened to strike the Games, and have coordinated attacks across the region, including December bombings in the Russian industrial center of Volgograd, which killed more than 30 people and injured dozens.

He's promising a safe Olympics? Wow. Let's see if Vlad the imprisoner will under-deliver on such a promise.

These guys are fearless and determined. They are more than willing to die perpetrating their mayhem. No one's been able to rein them in, so far. The Chinese have come the closest, maybe they should move the games there, sooner than later?

What are the big problems in  Russia?-alcoholism and  straight men abusing children  sexually and having sex with underage female prostitutes...  million s of people doing these actions. So what does Putin want to crack down on  and find unacceptable?...the small minority of gay pedophiles(outnumbered 100 to one by the straight male  pedophiles).

How do I know this, allover the world,(mainly Europe  and US,Cnanad,etc.).... the jails are full of straight rapists and stariaght pedophiles and have very few gay pedophiles(including the U.S.)...

What that gangster says is it is equal that those so-called 'hetrosexual' people in Russia could have propagandas that fit their sexual orientations, which they believe they are of, and have the right to discard any that provokes and irritates them for the sack of their homophobia, while true homosexuals don't have the right for their sexuality of nature to be expressed on posters in public and have no choice but to endure the propaganda of hetrosexuality, which could be repulsive to some gay people. He calls this equality? Shame on him.

"He emphasized that all Russians are treated equally, and even mentioned Russians’ love of Elton John."

Forget the US civil rights movement. As long as people loved minstrel shows, there was no racism in America.

When discussing the law about pedophilia in the canadian Parliament in people with mental disabilities in sexual found defenders, who called pedophilia "sexual orientations on a par with homosexuality". And in the United States, meanwhile, there is a special organization, which fights for the legalization of pedophilia.
Сanadian psychologists are not alone in his views about pedophiles.
In the USA there is the organization of "B4U-ACT", which purpose is legalization of pedophilia, informs Lifesitenews.
http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/academic-conference-seeks-to-normalize-pedophilia
The organization consists of many respected psychologists from Harvard, the University of Illinois and Louisville. They called pedophiles "people who involve minors" and claim that criminal prosecution of such individuals "unscientific". Representatives of "B4U-ACT", as well as their canadian-minded, believe pedophilia sexual orientation.

Article - utter nonsense.
Сhechens are grateful to Putin for what he helped to bring order in the Republic. A large part of the terrorist attacks occurred on the territory of Chechnya itself. For Putin in The Chechen Republic voted 99,7% - this is a absolute record  on territory Russia. You will have a great opportunity to further visit this Republic, if you come to the Olympics in Sochi. There actually is not far away. See firsthand how Chechens live. They chase away all of your myths.

In Russia there are no criminal penalties for homosexuality, in contrast to the United States. In Russia there is a ban on propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia among children.

@Sibir_Russia @ShengSun Then I have nothing else to say to you. Go with your government and keep oppressing your own people as you are voluntarily willing to do so. I don't know what reward you are getting from defending such injustice, but I suppose there are some.

@Sibir_Russia Sorry I didn't make it clear. But is it true that propaganda of hetrosexual love still can be made in the public?

Sibir_Russia
Sibir_Russia

@ShengSun@Sibir_Russia

Not. This is not true.
On the territory of Russia, rest of society  also prohibited to make propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia in the environment of children.

@Sibir_Russia Okay, let me put it like this. I am asking you a question, and if you are kind enough, please leave me a yes or no answer. Is it right that some people in a society, in this case, homosexual people in Russia, not to have the right for their love and sexuality to be expressed in the form of public propaganda, while the rest of the society have the right to do so?

read carefully

I wrote that there are other countries that prosecution for homosexuality, as in the USA.  But in Russia the penalty for homosexuality is not provided.

@Sibir_Russia @ShengSun  They are facts. I was asking for the point you wanted to make. As I understand from what you have written, I would speculate you are defending what was said by that tiny little homophobic prick, in another word, Vladimir Putin, for the statement he has made and the law his government has passed.

And as I see, your argument is that there are other countries, and some states in some other country, who are doing worse than Russia, therefore, what has been carried on by Vladimir Putin and his government in Russia could be perfectly understood and excused.

Am I correct? If I am, shame on you.

USA is not alone.
More than 80 countries homosexuality remains a criminal offence, and in seven countries - Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Sudan and Yemen - homosexual relations may even lead to the death penalty.

Sibir_Russia
Sibir_Russia

@ShengSun@Sibir_Russia

In some US States homosexuality is criminally punishable.
Most likely, this is because in USA have too many gays and not everyone likes it (normal people don't like, therefore, I regard with understanding).
But in Russia homosexuals are not as widespread as in the USA. In Russia there is no criminal punishment for homosexuality.
