U.S. President Barack Obama speaks in the Brady Briefing Room at the White House on February 28, 2014 in Washington, DC.

The Obama administration condemned in stark terms Russia’s aggressive assault on Ukrainian territory Saturday, after President Vladimir Putin led the Russian parliament to unanimously approve the deployment of military troops to the Ukraine.

As Russian forces began preparing to roll into Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, President Barack Obama spoke for 90 minutes with the Russian president to voice his “deep concern over Russia’s clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is a breach of international law.” He called on Russia to withdraw its forces from Crimea immediately and resolve its differences with Ukraine’s interim government peacefully through mediated talks. “The United States condemns Russia’s military intervention into Ukrainian territory,” The White House said in a statement.

The White House added that the U.S. would suspend its participation in preparatory meetings for the G-8 summit to be held in Russia in June, and warned of “greater political and economic isolation” if it continued to pursue military action in Ukraine.

The Kremlin said Putin had drawn attention during the telephone call to the “provocative and criminal actions on the part of ultranationalists who are in fact being supported by the current authorities in Kiev” and stressed the “real threat to the lives and health of Russian citizens and the many compatriots who are currently on Ukrainian territory.” It said it reserved the right to protect its interests in the face of the “further spread of violence to eastern Ukraine and Crimea.”

Senior members in the Obama administration held an emergency meeting at the White House Saturday afternoon. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey, and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper were seen leaving the White House on Saturday. President Barack Obama was not present at the meeting, but Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry joined by secure video conference.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Saturday for direct dialogue between all parties, and saying in the face of Russian aggression that the sovereignty of Ukraine must be preserved. “The Secretary-General reiterates his call for the full respect for and preservation of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” his spokesperson said as Russia approved a unilateral troop deployment in Crimea.

The United Nations Security Council also convened for the second time in two days to discuss the crisis. U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power condemned Russia’s move and called for international monitors to de-escalate the crisis. “Russia’s actions in Ukraine violate the sovereignty of Ukraine,” she said. “It is time for the Russian intervention in Ukraine to end,” she added, applauding the “remarkable restraint” of the new Ukrainian government.

Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, called on Kiev to “sideline the radicals,” referring to the nationalist elements of the opposition that have taken control of government. The U.N. Security Council was unable to consider any formal resolutions on the crisis, as permanent member Russia would be able to veto any such action.

Ukraine opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko was set to meet with Putin even as Russian troops barreled into Crimea seizing control of military bases and key government buildings. Tymoshenko was released from prison after the deposed Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s flight from Kiev.

John McCain (R-AZ), known as a hawkish voice in Congress, called for immediate action. “Every moment that the United States and our allies fail to respond sends the signal to President Putin that he can be even more ambitious and aggressive in his military intervention in Ukraine.”

The anarchists in Kiev who overthrew the democratically elected sovereign government are the ones who dispensed with the rules.  Russia has more interest in the region than the USA had in Iraq, and it's too late to call for rules after the anarchists have dispensed with them.  Russia might just invade to reestablish legitimate government and then withdraw as Viet Nam did in Cambodia after the USA had ignored the massive genocide of the Khmer Rouge.   Could happen, we just don't know.

Obama how about you take care of your own nearly bankrupt nation and improve infrastructure a bit before playing the world police.

The west have to drag Mr Putin to international meeting and convincing him that the relationship between any nations in this century depends on a mutual respect and strong business relationship and not on racial discrimination and wars or showing the musculus to silent the voices of freedom or restrict the free nations to improve their economy as well as to mind their business. We have to stop the super power countries from invading the weak and the small countries and respect their Independence even though it got it from (the mother) the super power country other wise the world becomes a jungle and the conflicts will spread all over the world as well as life becomes unbearable for the small nations as the world comes to end,

What hypocrisy from the west. Especially the

U.S. we invade Iraq on trumped charges of WMD and thousands of innocent iraqi's die. Since the collapse of Soviet Union the west has done nothing but seek to put missiles in former Soviet satallite nations that border Russia and keep in force NATO as a threat even though the Warsaw pact disbanded. the west screams about Russian meddling in Ukraine affairs, were not they doing the same in instagating the pro west crowds on the street and sending McCain to rile them up personally? Guess it is alright as long as we interfer, oh I guess to protect our interest or carve out a sphere of influence. Bottom line all should but out of the Ukraine. But that will never happen because it is all about interest being the dollar, the euro or what do the Russ call their currency the ruble? Or whatever!

Putin intends to take the region into his "Eurasian" empire. Any bets on whether he succeeds?

You can see the people who initiated the conflict in Ukraine. Putin hired thugs and neo-fascists (the residents of Moscow, Russia), which make provocations. On the photo you can see a time when Russian provocateur throws down Ukrainian national flag on the building of the public administration in Kharkov, Ukraine and is sets the Russian flag instead. All of them came to this country to make a provocation to justify aggression Putin. Near that photo you see this provocateur homepage in social network

Bunch of hypocrites! All of you already forgot that you invaded and bombed Iraq with the approval of your Congress. At least there was a little bit of justification in the case of Afghanistan, but it was and invasion and bombing that still continues. Oh, but Putin is a dictator, according to the American democracy, but in reality he was elected democratically. But the Christian of the USA  don't say anything supporting another Christian as Putin, no siree, in this case the American jingoism is superior to the sharing of Christ with the Russians. Hypocrites,

Please,  heinztobler shut up! And leave your fake informations from Kremlin to your owner – former KGB officer Mr.Putin. May be he will pay you.

But ask him to stop his intervention to Ukraine. It is his fatal mistake for which the whole World will pay a catastrophic cost, Russia too.

Below are hacked letters that prove that the whole overthrow of the Ukraine government was orchestrated and paid by the USA/GB and the EU. The armed opposition was financed and orchestrated from the WEST. Why is the WEST supporting and educating nationalsocialist fighters??? Read the following hacked letters of Vitali Klitschko, boxchampion and opposition leader and you will know. Ask yourself who paid the people to stood up against the ukraininan government for months? Some were trained by NATO officers and paid and orchestrated by the USA, GB & EU.

Dear Mr. Jonavicius,

I am writing to thank you for your assistance. The meeting with Mrs. Grauziniene was very productive. We exchanged views on current events and discussed our plans for the future. Mrs. Grauziniene made some interesting proposals concerning my future. I need to give it some thought but in general I am willing to accept your terms.

Special thanks to all Lithuanian friends for financial assistance. Today my assistant visited your embassy where he met the Counselor. They discussed financial issues and plans for future cooperation. My assistant also provided Valentina with the details of my bank account in Germany.

I look forward to a successful working relationship in the future.

Regards,
Vitali

Laurynas,

Following up upon our telephone conversation I think it would be useful to schedule a visit of some high-ranking officials from the EU. Maidan is in need of constant moral support. It would be appropriate to invite someone from Berlin. I have some top-ranking friends there but for some reason they hesitate.

Our American friends promised to pay a visit in the coming days, we may even see Nuland or someone from the Congress.

Another concern I want to raise is that Yanukovych keeps a low profile. It looks very suspicious. What's he up to? We would really appreciate some more information on this issue.

Sincerely yours,
Vitali

Laurynas,

I am very grateful to the President and all Lithuanian friends for such strong support. I will do everything possible to meet the expectations of my European partners.

Your colleague has arrived and started working with my team. He's a real pro and I think his services may be required even after the country is destabilized.

I've also met your people from the Embassy. The information about Yanukovych's plans they handed me is very important for our common cause. I would like to receive this kind of information on a permanent basis.

Sincerely yours,
Vitali

Laurynas,

I think we've paved the way for more radical escalation of the situation. Isn't it time to proceed with more decisive actions?

I also want you to consider the possibility of increasing funding to pay for the services of our supporters.

Sincerely,
Vitali

If the West goes on like that, we will see Russia attacking Germany next august.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cBCBaIxWdY

And that is maybe the hidden agenda of the whole politics of the USA and GB: The destruction of the economy of Germany. We had it already 1914-1919 and 1939-1945. We have to understand that the Ukraine is at the doorstep of Russia and if the Ukraine becomes a member of the EU and NATO, and that was it what the overthrown president refused to do, to join the EU, Russia will not accept. It is geostrategical suicide of Russia to allow the Ukraine to join the EU and NATO. Kennedy also did not accept it that the Sowjets installed nuclear warheads in Cuba. So the question is: Why is the NATO threaten Russia again with nuclear weapons?
See this video that shows the former russian president Medvedev giving a most important speech. This speech was not shown by the mainstream media. You have to activate the english subtitles in Youtube.

It is good to see the position of Russia and understand. The world has not only good and bad guys...we have to learn to differentiate and see the situation beyond from propaganda.

Greetings from Switzerland to a brainwashed american nation that once was a true REPUBLIC!

... ... Oh, look!  It's Barak Obama!  As we all know, Barak Obama is a black, American Muslim.  Why is he trying to call the shots over the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, white, Roman Catholic territory?  Isn't this the Pope's place?  We know that the Ruskies are Christian Orthodox and white supremacists who support their own.

Who does this black Muslim think he is?  It's time for the USA to butt out of foreign affairs.
