Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen stormed a military base in Yemen and were holding high-ranking officers captive on Monday, the latest brazen attack from one of the terror group’s most active branches.

Yemeni soldiers were surrounding the compound late Monday, in Yemen’s Hadramawt province, officials told the Associated Press.

Authorities believe at least 15 militants dressed in fatigues and riding in stolen military trucks attacked the main gate before overtaking the facility. They have not yet released a death toll.
