A spate of suicide bombing attacks, including one at a school, killed at least 33 people in Iraq on Sunday.
A suicide bomber drove a truck filled with explosives into the playground of a primary school in northern Iraq, killing 12 children as well as the headmaster of the school. Another suicide bomber attacked a group of Shi’ite pilgrims traveling to a shrine in Baghdad, killing at least 14 people and wounding more than 30, Reuters reports.
No group has immediately yet claimed responsibility for either bombing. Sectarian bloodshed has risen of late: At least 6,000 people have been killed across the country this year, halting what had been a decline in recent years. At least 66 Shi’ite pilgrims traveling through a Sunni neighborhood on the way to a shrine were killed Saturday in bombings, with 80 wounded, reports the Associated Press.
