In this Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 file photo released by the Jinan Intermediate People's Court, fallen politician Bo Xilai, center, is handcuffed and held by police officers as he stands at the court in Jinan, in eastern China's Shandong province.

The Bo Xilai chronicle is bound for an additional chapter, after the Shandong Higher People’s Court approved his appeal submission on Wednesday. After one of China’s biggest political showtrials at the end of August, the former Chongqing politician was sentenced to life imprisonment on Sept. 22.

Among other things, Bo was found guilty of taking bribes totaling the equivalent of $3.3 million and covering up the murder of British citizen Neil Haywood, for which his wife was convicted. Bo has denied all charges.
