The blast that shook a Burma hotel on Monday and injured one American was caused by a small, homemade time bomb, police said Tuesday.

The explosion at the Traders Hotel in Rangoon ripped apart one room and slightly injured the American woman, the Associated Press reports. It was one of multiple unexplained explosions around the country in the last few days. Police said three suspects are in custody in connection with the hotel blast.

The series of homemade bomb blasts across the country have killed two people and injured three more. The first bomb went off Friday in Taungoo, 125 miles from Rangoon. Two people were reportedly killed. On Sunday, another bomb went off in Rangoon, reportedly injuring three people. A third bomb exploded in Rangoon that same day.

The explosions come as Burma is preparing to take over chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and also gearing up to host the South Asian games in December.
