In this Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 photo, people visit the fort of King Rao Ram Baksh Singh in Unnao, in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh state, India.

Shobhan Sarkar, a renowned holy man, said the ghost of King Rao Ram Baksh Singh had visited him in a dream to deliver some extraordinary news: $50 billion worth of treasure was stashed in the ground beneath his fort in Uttar Pradesh. The tip from beyond the grave has triggered an official dig and a flurry of anticipation about what to do with the money.

One of the king’s descendants has already tried to claim his share and local lawmakers have promised to spread the wealth across the impoverished state’s 200 million residents. Villagers have flocked to the site, gathering in throngs along the barricades, hoping to see a prophecy fulfilled.
