As Kenyan commandos inched closer to clearing al-Qaeda-linked terrorists from the Westgate Mall in Nairobi in late September, some of the troops may have helped themselves to the shopping center’s spoils.

According to footage captured by security cameras reviewed by the Associated Press, Kenyan forces appear to have lifted goods from stores as they searched the shopping center for potential militants and hostages. They allegedly stole mobile phones, cleaned out cash registers and lifted bottles of alcohol. Kenyan legislators have reportedly exonerated the military of any wrongdoing.
