A southern California pastor is on his way home after being detained for protesting outside of a prison in Iran.

Eddie Romero surrendered to guards on Monday after protesting the imprisonment of four Christian converts at Evin Prison in Tehran. Iranian authorities held him for questioning, but Romero later called his family from the Swiss Embassy saying he would return to Los Angeles on Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.

Romero is the founder of Exodus8one who, according to the AP, engages governments the organizations considers to be “belligerent” governments toward Christians and other religious minorities. Romero was arrested in China during the 2008 Beijing Olympics after demanding the release of Chinese activists.
