A strong earthquake struck Taiwan Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, Reuters reports.

The 6.6 magnitude quake struck near the east coast city of Hua-lien, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Witnesses say it shook tall buildings in the capital city of Taipei about 100 miles to the north.
