A three-day general strike enforced by opposition parties in Bangladesh has taken a violent turn with two people dead and more than 40 injured.
Life came to a standstill on Tuesday, the second day of the strike, as schools, shops and private offices in the capital Dhaka remained closed.
The opposition is attempting to oust Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from office and has ignored her offer of talks.
Khaleda Zia, Hasina’s decades-long political rival and the leader of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is demanding a caretaker government to oversee upcoming elections.
Disturbances during a similar 60-hour strike last week killed 16 people.
