U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry speaks to the press in Geneva, Nov. 8, 2013.

Secretary of State John Kerry is pointing the finger at Iran for the failure to close a nuclear deal during talks in Geneva on Saturday.

Amid reports that France was to blame for the agreement capsizing, Kerry told reporters in Abu Dhabi that Iran was actually the obstacle. “The French signed off on it; we signed off on it,” but “Iran couldn’t take [the deal] at that particular moment,” Kerry said, according to the BBC.

Kerry emphasized, however, that he’s not given up hope, and wants to “find an agreement that meets everyone’s standards” in the next few months. Representatives from Iran and the P5+1 (US, UK, Franc, Russia, China and Germany) will meet again to discuss the nuclear situation in Iran on Nov. 20.

In the past, Iran has emphasized that its nuclear program is meant for peaceful purposes only. The United States and other world powers, however, believe the country may be trying to develop nuclear weapons. Talks have reportedly stalled because the Iranian government insists on the recognition of its “right” to enrich uranium.
