Yes, The Pope Used To Be a Bouncer

Another reason to think twice before talking back to the bouncer

Pope Francis, who has made surprising the world commonplace, reminded a group of parishioners that he worked as a bouncer in his youth.

That tidbit, shared during a visit to a church in a working-class suburb of Rome, had been reported in the past, but this was the first time he’s made mention of it as Pope, Today reports. In addition to his stint at a Buenos Aires bar, the Pope talked about his experiences sweeping floors and working in a lab as a teenager, according to the Catholic News Service.

Today asks if he is the “coolest pope ever?” and New York magazine calls him, in a playful reenactment of the future Pontiff at the door, the “world’s worst bouncer.”
