Israel said a Lebanese soldier fired seven shots across the Israeli border on Sunday, killing one Israeli soldier.

According to the Associated Press, the Lebanese military has yet to confirm or explain the incident. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said both sides were cooperating in an investigation into Sunday’s events.

Tensions along the border climaxed in 2006, when Hizballah guerrillas abducted two Israeli soldiers, triggering an exchange of missile fire that claimed 1,200 Lebanese and 160 Israeli lives.
