An aircraft crash in southern Afghanistan killed six international service members on Tuesday, in the single deadliest incident of the year for coalition troops.

Citing unnamed defense officials, the Associated Press reports that the service members were American and a seventh person was injured but survived the crash.  A total of 109 Americans have been killed in Afghanistan this year, down from 297 last year.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said initial reports indicate there was “no enemy activity in the area” when the crash occurred, the Washington Post reports.
