Pavel Khodorkovsky speaks to media following his reunion with his father Mikhail Khodorkovsky, in front of the Hotel Adlon on December 21, 2013 in Berlin, Germany.

Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the former head of Russia’s largest oil company, was reunited with his family in Germany Saturday, after being pardoned from prison Friday.

Khodorkovsky flew to Berlin Saturday to meet his eldest son Pavel and his parents, Marina and Boris, the Associated PressĀ reports.

President Vladmir Putin pardoned him from a 10-year imprisonment on charges of tax evasion in 2003. The 50-year-old, a known critic of Putin, is expected to speak at a news conference Sunday at Checkpoint Charlie, the borderline between East and West Berlin during the Cold War.

Khodorkovsky left Russia on his own accord and is free to return whenever he wishes.
