Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff reacts as she flies over a region affected by heavy rains in Espirito Santo state December 24, 2013.

Authorities in Brazil say at least 32 people are dead after heavy rains inundated two southeastern states this week resulting in mudslides and flooding in the region.

According to the AP, more than 50,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo states. The flooding in the two states is reportedly the worst the area has experienced in nine decades.
