China’s Communist Party has ordered its nicotine-loving public officials to set an example for the nation’s 300 million smokers by stubbing out their cigarettes before they enter schools, hospitals, buses and other places with, er, official smoking bans.

The common sense suggestions came from a Communist Party circular quoted by the state-owned Xinhua News Agency. The South China Morning Post reports that officials are also prohibited from smoking while on duty, purchasing cigarettes with state funds and displaying tobacco ads on state property.
