Al Jazeera is quoting ground reports from northern Syria that suggest the al-Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) executed media activists, aid workers and civilians on Monday.

The 50 appear to have been slain following the victory of a rebel coalition in Aleppo over the weekend, activist organization the Local Coordination Committees told the Doha-based broadcaster.

After months of antagonizing fellow rebel groups and locals in their northern Syrian strongholds, both moderate and Islamist militants fighting against the Bashar Assad regime turned their attention to ISIS this weekend, proceeding to dislodge the hardline Islamist group from several of their key bases.

ISIS primarily boasts foreign fighters and has overseen the kidnapping, assassination and torture of other rebel members as well as the reported imprisonment of journalists and relief workers. But it appears they may have finally overstepped the mark by tormenting people with their harsh interpretation of Islamic rule and murdering a key opposition figure last week.
