The Chinese tech company Huawei denied reports on Wednesday that American spies had compromised its telecommunications equipment.
The German magazine Der Spiegel, citing internal U.S. douments, reported last month that Hauwei was among several technologies companies that had their products infiltrated by the National Security Agency. Cathy Meng, Huawei’s chief financial officer, told reporters Wednesday that “those accusations are groundless and we do not agree with that,” AFP reports.
Huawei’s technology has often been questioned abroad for its security and what’s perceived as the company’s close ties to the Chinese government. It has been barred from involvement in broadband projects in both the U.S. and Australia over espionage fears, AFP reports.
But Meng said there have been “no network incidents caused by security reasons.”
