A stampede broke out in Mumbai Saturday, where thousands had gathered to mourn the death of a spiritual leader, killed at least 18 mourners and injured 56 others.
Dawoodi Bohras Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin’s body was on view in a bungalow for Indians who wanted to pay their respects, but the number of people coming in and out likely led to many feeling suffocated and possibly the eventual stampede, police told the Hindustan Times.
Two children were among the dead.
