Workers build flood walls around the home of Sam Notaro in Somerset, England on Feb. 10, 2014.

Residents impacted by record floodwaters in a low-lying part of the U.K.’s southwest are using this home as a symbol of defiance against the Environment Agency for not dredging the nearby river. Sam Notaro, who built and owns the house, spent thousands of dollars to protect it and reportedly remains inside despite evacuations and a breach of the barrier.
