At least 4 people have been killed and over a hundred injured in the suicide bombing of an Iranian cultural center in Beirut on Wednesday.

The targeted area was in a Shiite-dominated area of southern Beirut, reports AP. The Abdullah Azzam Brigades, a group linked to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility according to the Lebanese authorities.

The organization claimed the attack was in retaliation for the Lebanon-based Shiite group Hizballah’s support for President Bashar Assad’s forces in Syria. The group has played a key role in removing Syrian rebels from areas near to the Lebanon-Syria border.

The Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed on Twitter that Hizballah will not “enjoy security in Lebanon until the people of Syria feel secure.”
